  1. As part of Symantec's commitment to virus protection, it is our responsibility
  2. to inform you that a new Trojan Horse was recently discovered, called CPro
  3. which affects all Apple Macintosh computers systems.  This Trojan Horse
  4. application, found in a file named CPRO141.SEA, goes under the guise of an
  5. update to a popular file compression program.  If the CPro application is run,
  6. it will attempt to format mounted hard disks and floppy disks.  However, it is
  7. only successful in formatting floppy disks.

  9. Owners of SAM Version 3.0 and Version 3.5 can instantly update the detection
  10. and protection capabilities of the program against this new Trojan Horse by
  11. entering the new virus definition into SAM Virus Clinic.  In conjunction with
  12. the new SAM User Definition and SAM 3.0/SAM 3.5, you will be able to scan for
  13. CPro from both Virus Clinic and SAM Intercept.

  15. Alternately,  you may also download the new Virus Defintions file located in
  16. this library.

  19. USER DEFINITION UPDATE DETECTION INSTRUCTIONS
  20. Use the following instructions only if you wish to update manually instead of
  21. downloading the new Virus Defintions file.

  23. FOR VERSION 3.5:
  24. Open SAM Virus Clinic.  From the Options menu in version 3.5 of SAM Virus
  25. Clinic select "Virus Definitions".  Select "Add Resource"
  26.  
  27. Now enter the following information:

  29. Name: CPro
  30. Search String (Hex): ADE9 7406 4EFA FFF4 343C 000A
  31. Offset:  Equal to 110
  32. From: Start
  33.  
  34. Resource Type: CODE
  35. Resource ID: Equal to 2
  36. Size: Equal to 298
  37.  
  38. Verification: B57F
  39.  
  40. (Check: 668D)

  42. After you've entered the above information, click "DONE" to add  the definition
  43. to SAM.

  45. FOR VERSION 3.0:
  46. Open SAM Virus Clinic.  From the Options menu in version 3.0 of SAM Virus
  47. Clinic select "Advanced Options" and then select "Add Definition (Resource)"
  48. from the Definitions menu.  Now enter the following information:

  50. Virus Name:     CPro
  51. Resource Type:  CODE
  52. Resource ID:    = 2
  53. Resource Size:  = 298
  54. Search String (HEX):  ADE9 7406 4EFA FFF4 343C ØØØA
  55.                 (no spaces)
  56. String Offset:  =   11Ø FROM START
  57.  
  58. (NOTE:  Ø = zero)
  59.  
  60. Please type in the search descriptions without any spaces.  As a guard against
  61. incorrect entry, SAM 3.0 has a "Check" field in the definition screen.  If the
  62. above information is entered correctly, your check field should be:  668D.

  64. After you've entered the above information, click "Add" to add  the definition
  65. to SAM.  This information should be added to the SAM User Definitions file
  66. located in your System Folder.

  68. UPDATE REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS
  69.  
  70. Remember that entering the above user definition into SAM Virus Clinic only
  71. updates the detection capabilities of SAM.  For repair capabilities, users can
  72. download the virus definitions file for both versions 3.0 and 3.5 from The
  73. Symantec Bulletin board at (408) 973-9598, CompuServe, America Online or
  74. Applelink.
